Unveiling the IFSW African Region Conference 2025: A Call to Action for Social Work Practitioners and Educators Worldwide

 



The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) African Region Conference 2025 is set to bring together leading professionals, educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the field of social work. Scheduled to take place from November 26 to 30, 2025, in Dakar, Senegal, this prestigious event will be hosted at the École Nationale de Développement Sanitaire et Social (ENDSS), Km 4.5 Avenue Cheikh Anta DIOP.  


Themed “Navigating the Challenges of Social Cohesion and Sustainable Development,”the conference will serve as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and strategic discussions aimed at addressing some of the most pressing social issues across the African continent and beyond.  


Conference Focus and Key Themes


In a rapidly changing global landscape marked by economic disparities, social fragmentation, environmental challenges, and governance issues, the role of social workers has become more crucial than ever. The IFSW African Region Conference 2025 will delve into critical discussions through a series of technical sessions centered on the following key sub-themes:  


1. Social Work, Child Protection, and Community Resilience in the Face of Climate and Migration Crises

   - Exploring the impact of climate change and forced migration on vulnerable populations  

   - Strengthening community-based child protection systems  

   - Developing sustainable interventions to support displaced individuals  


2. Strengthening Social Workers’ Capacity for Crisis Response: Effective Strategies for Emergency Interventions

   - Enhancing preparedness and response mechanisms for social workers  

   - Addressing humanitarian crises with evidence-based interventions  

   - Building resilience and psychological support systems for crisis responders  


3. Women and Girls: Navigating Fragility, Vulnerability, and Exclusion

   - Addressing gender-based violence and discrimination  

   - Promoting women’s empowerment through social work practices  

   - Strengthening policy frameworks to protect and uplift women and girls  


4. Overcoming Governance Challenges in National Social Work Associations Through Legislation and Professionalization

   - Strengthening legal frameworks to support social work as a profession  

   - Enhancing governance structures within social work associations  

   - Promoting ethical standards and continuous professional development  


Call for Abstracts: Invitation to Contribute to the Dialogue


Social work practitioners, educators, researchers, and policymakers from around the world are invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the conference. This is an opportunity to share innovative research findings, best practices, case studies, and policy recommendations that align with the conference’s main theme and sub-themes.  


Submission Guidelines

- Abstracts must be relevant to one of the conference sub-themes  

- Submissions should clearly outline objectives, methodology, key findings, and implications for social work practice  

- All abstracts will be subject to a peer review process  

- Accepted presenters will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse audience of professionals
