The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) General Meeting 2026 has concluded one of its most anticipated events with the election of new global and regional leaders who will guide the Federation into its next chapter of growth, advocacy, and professional advancement.
In a closely watched election conducted during the second day of the General Meeting in Nairobi, delegates from member organizations across the world elected Eva Ponce de Leon as the new Global President of the International Federation of Social Workers.
IFSW Global President Election Results
The result reflects a strong mandate from the global social work community, entrusting Eva Ponce de Leon with the responsibility of leading the Federation's efforts to strengthen social justice, human rights, sustainable development, and professional social work practice worldwide.
African Region Vice President Election Results
The African Region also witnessed an important leadership transition with delegates electing Abib Ndiaye as the new Vice President for the IFSW Africa Region.
The results were as follows:
• Abib Ndiaye – 9 votes
• Msekiwa Makwanya – 2 votes
• Joseph Kalelo – 1 vote
The election outcome signals renewed confidence in leadership that will continue advancing the priorities of social workers across Africa while strengthening the continent's voice within the global federation.
Delegates from across the world congratulated the successful candidates and expressed appreciation to all contestants for their commitment, vision, and willingness to serve the profession.
